ASUS and Walt Disney’s consumer products group have announced a netbook designed for children aged between 6-12 years. The Disney Netpal netbooks will be available in July with a suggested retail price of $349.99. The netbooks are embellished with the Disney logo and come in either princess pink or magic blue.
The Disney Netpal MK90H uses Windows XP Home, has an 8.9-inch LED backlit WSVGA screen, an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, VGA out, SD card reader, 0.3-megapixel webcam Wi-Fi capabilities and a 4200mAh polymer battery. The machine weighs 1.2kg with the battery installed and kid-friendly software featuring Disney characters and icons in stunning visual environments.
Other Features include more than 40 different parental control options, Browsers and email have extra filters to assure that kids only get access to safe content, and parents can easily select whom children can correspond with via email. The Magic Desktop “gadget tray” offers a creatively designed 2D menu displaying Disney email, Disney browser and Disney parental control options.
The new product is full of offers for kids growing up in the digital age such as Disney Pix that allows for photo customization, a Radio Disney Widget that allows real-time streaming music and Disney Mix for music and media management. For fun, the laptop’s desktop is customisable with Disney themes ranging from Vintage Mickey Mouse, Cars and Toy Story to Club Penguin, and Hannah Montana and Disney Princess among others.
