Internet search giant Google has launched its voice-based search applications and map solutions for Blackberry users, which is built completely by Google’s Indian team. The service will serve 400,000 Blackberry users in the country. This marks Goolge India’s another initiative on the mobile front as the company had earlier launched a SMS-based search engine services.

The Google Mobile for BlackBerry owners will let them search using their voice and also get places using My Location feature. Users can get information regarding particular site, opening Google search page that shows top results of the category. The firm aims to capture large market share by providing the facility to low-cost GPRS handsets and offering cheaper data plans. BlackBerry users can access the features from m.google.com from their BlackBerry phones.

“Mobiles (more than 400 million) outnumber the personal computers
(PCs -slightly over 30 million) concentration in India. A big part of the population accessing Internet going ahead would do so on a mobile handset and so we need to offer enriching experience to these users. “Currently, the facility is available only to Blackberry cellphone users in India but we hope to extend this to other handsets by the end of the year,” said Vinay Goel, Country Head, Products, Google India.

At present, the voice-search service introduced by Google in India is free of cost. Callers or information seekers can feel free to avail the Google voice-search service through a toll-free number. Rival company, Yahoo Inc. recently in India, introduced a similar voice search facility. However, this Yahoo voice search service permits mobile users to seek information on the Internet through a phone call.
