HTC unveils windows Mobile 6.5-based HTC HD2

HTC has officially announced the ‘Leo’ and it is now officially called the HTC HD2 which is claimed to be its first Windows smartphone with HTC Sense technology. The HD2 is powered by 1GHz processor and runs the new Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system.

The HD2 boasts of a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display. This screen promises to provide sharper, richer and brighter display.



The HTC HD2 uses the first capacitive touch display on a Windows phone to make viewing, zooming and resizing websites, Microsoft Office files, PDF documents and pictures easier with just a pinch of your fingers. There’s a 5-megapixel camera, with autofocus and a dual-LED flash, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth stereo support. The Internet is accessible using Internet Explorer Mobile or Opera Mobile, with Wi-Fi and HSPA as well as through USB or Bluetooth.

With the HTC Sense experience, the HTC HD2 includes a variety of enhancements that expand and improve the overall phone experience. The HTC HD2 includes a variety of sensors including proximity sensor that is used to prevent false screen touches when the phone is picked up to answer or make a call. It also comes embedded with a light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the display depending on the ambient light.

HTC has also incorporated a new Windows-based version of its Twitter application, HTC Peep. In addition, the handset is also able to deliver an enhanced e-mail experience through synchronization with Microsoft Exchange. The other features of this windows based phone include a widget-based home screen for easy customization and one-touch access to social networking functions, 3G broadband connectivity, Windows Marketplace for Mobile and support for Microsoft’s latest My Phone service.

The HTC HD2 will be available later this month with selected operators across Europe. Apparently, the smartphone will hit the stores in other regions in the near future. However, the pricing details are not revealed.
