Seadragon Mobile

Microsoft Live Labs released its first Apple iPhone application. Seadragon Mobile is now available in the Apple’s app store. Seadragon is primarily known as core technology behind Microsoft’s PhotoSynth photo browsing program. It is designed for smooth Zooming in or out and around the photos via the Internet, regardless of bandwidth constraints or brightness. Seadragon technological trick is to store images in several resolutions and deliver only the bits needed to view a user wants at any given moment. When discussing the reasoning behind the choice of the iPhone as a platform for Seadragon Mobile, Microsoft basically pointed to the iPhone’s superior hardware in comparison with most phones today. The iPhone is a dilemma for Microsoft in general, since it competes with mobile phones that use the Windows Mobile operating system.
