Nokia’s highly anticipated N97 smartphone is set for release in the UK from 19 June, but initially only as a SIM-free version.
The phone features a 3.5 inch tilting touch screen (the resolution is 640×360) with a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from underneath the handset, 32GB of on-board storage (expandable with up to 16GB via microSD). Measuring 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9mm, the N97 also features a 5 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss lens as well as integrated GPS and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
“The Nokia N97 is an important step towards our vision of delivering a highly personalised internet experience,” said Jonas Geust, vice president and head of Nokia Nseries.
“Fuelled by a multitude of music, maps, games, media and applications via Ovi, the Nokia N97 transforms the internet into an experience that’s completely tailored to the tastes and interests of its owner.”
Nokia also said the handset will come with its Ovi app store pre-installed. The N97 will be the first phone to offer instant access to the full range of Ovi services from the start, which offers easy access to applications, games, videos, podcasts, productivity tools, web, and location-based services, and much more.
Priced at £499 for a SIM-free handset, the device will be available from Nokia stores and the manufacturer’s online shop. However, Nokia also revealed it will be available with monthly contracts from 3, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone as well as through the Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4 U from June 26. It will be available in white and black color.
