Samsung announced that Samsung Star also known as the Tocco Lite or S5230 has surpassed the 5 million units sold mark, making it the fastest phone in Samsung history to reach this milestone. The Star (model number S5230), launched in May, is the fastest model in Samsung’s history to reach the milestone.
Samsung Star was first launched in Europe in last may, where one million handsets were sold in 45 days. After that the handset reached in other markets like south east and south west Asia, China, East- central Africa and central America and also in CIS.
According to the company, more than 700,000 of the model were sold in May which scaled to 900,000 in June, while July and August brought sales of 1.6 million and 1.8 million units respectively. After observing the current trend, the company expects Star S5230’s sales to reach 10 million on a global level by the end of November this year.
The Samsung Star 5230 boasts high-tech features such as Samsung’s exclusive high-quality sound technology, DNSe, as well as a SmileShot-enabled camera and Bluetooth v2.1, 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, 3-inches TFT touch screen, GPRS/EDGE class 12, internal memory of 50MB, expandable micro SD card memory up to 16GB. Samsung S5230 measures 104.0 x 53.0 x 11.9 mm in size and weights about 93.5 gm.
To drive sales, Samsung launched active marketing programs in emerging markets where the phone is being sold, tailoring its activities, such as experimental Mobile Live events and outdoor marketing, to specific trends in those countries.
