Sony has unveiled the new Sony S Series and Sony E Series Walkmans. Both the S series and E series feature impressive specifications. Sony’s ‘S Series’ and ‘E Series’ will provide everything that the current iPods have, including the video playback and vast storage space. Sony will ship both new series of Walkman music players in U.S. next month.
The Sony S Series feature a 2.4 inch QVGA LCD screen with an ultra quick response time, capable of video playback of up to 30fps. The new Sony S Series Walkman will feature high-quality built-in stereo speakers. It supports MP3, WMA (DRM), AAC (non DRM) and Linear PCM for audio and AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline Profile, MPEG-4 and WMV (DRM) for video. The S series players offer music playback of 42 hours and 6.5 hours of video. This also comes with a FM radio and voice recorder along with the capability of recording the programs from radio.
The Sony E Series Walkman player has the same basic design as the S-Series. It is a fairly basic portable music player with a 2 inch QVGA LCD screen capable of supporting 30 FPS video and comes with a matching speaker dock. The E-Series Walkman will up to 30 hours of music playback and up to 4 hours of video playback. The E-Series has codec support for MP3, WMA (DRM), AAC (non-DRM), and Linear PCM. For video, it supports WMV (DRM). It also features Sony’s “Clear Audio” technology.
Both Walkman series of music players incorporate the Clear Audio technology for superior sound and allow content transfer through iTunes 8.1 software.
The Walkman S series will be available in 8GB and 16GB and comes at a price of $110 (Rs. 5,300 approx.) and $130 (Rs. 6,240 approx.) respectively. On the other hand, the Walkman E series is also available in 8GB and 16GB models and comes at a cost of $80 (Rs. 3,840 approx.) and $100 (Rs. 4,800 approx.) respectively. Sony will offer Walkman S series music players in black, red, violet and pink colors while E series would come in red and black colors.
