It is USB 2.0 compatible and includes software for Windows and Mac compatibility that ensure easy back-up and retrieval of data that could have been lost due to accidents. For the convenience of Windows users, these drives include the NTI BackupNow EZ software. This allows users to backup their entire system with a simple click. Moreover, it also allows users to restore their system without booting. In addition, the software will scan a user’s system and provide personalized recommendations on the best coverage for files, folders and the entire computer.

For Mac users, Toshiba’s new backup drives come bundled with NTI Shadow 4 for Mac, enabling users to easily identify files and folders to back up and select a convenient schedule for storage. Toshiba’s external hard drives also are compatible with Apple’s Time Machine right out of the box.

“We are approaching a divide with digital content – on the one hand we have a tremendous amount of important digital files being stored each day; however, according to our research, there is much confusion on the urgency to back up these crucial files and how to ensure consumers are protected in case of a computer problem,” said Chris Ely, senior research analyst, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). “Based on our survey data, the majority of consumers want the peace of mind to have complete backup, as opposed to only select files.”

It comes in two versions, 320 GB and 500 GB and weighs just six ounces and the approximate size of a postcard. These new portable storage products provide consumers with storage for up to 142,000 digital photos, 131,000 digital music files, or 410 downloaded digital movies. These portable hard drives can withstand daily wear and tear with special features such as an internal shock sensor, ramp-loading technology and anti-slip footpads to help anchor the drive in place.

The drives will come colored in variety like Liquid Blue, Vivid White, Rocket Red and Komodo Green. The HDD is available online at the company website and is priced at Rs. 7,300 for the 500 GB version and Rs. 5,900 for the 320 GB.
