Toshiba officially announced the new Dynabook SS-RX2, designed using 43nm MLC NAND memory, new Dynabook SS-RX2 which comes equipped with a 512GB SSD drive inside even though it’s only a few millimeters thick. “Dynabook SS RX2 series” of notebook PCs offers light weight, slim lines, and long-lasting battery operation. Dynabook SS RX2/WAJ notebook is the world’s first portable PC that incorporates a 512GB SSD. With this Toshiba will basically provide high-end computer users with a laptop that offers a gigantic storage capacity, better battery life and a more efficient overall PC.
It offers a huge mass of solid-state storage together with a 1.40GHz Core 2 Duo SU9400 processor, 12.1-inch display and 3GB of memory. It measures between 19.5 and 25.5mm thick and weighs less than 2.5 pounds and offers up to 12hrs of runtime.
Other specifications include WiFi and gigabit ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, a DVD super-multi drive. The SSD (which costs $1,500) features 230MB/s reading speed and 180MB/s writing speed.The RX2 also gets an energy-saving design that cuts power consumption by adopting an ultra-low voltage CPU; it also features a transreflective LCD which means it will use the sunlight to brighten the screen.
The Dynabook SS RX2/WAJ went on sale in Japan and costs $4,000. There’s no word on the availability of the “Dynabook SS RX2″ for other markets.
